December was a big month for X1 users.
There’s been some major feature launches on the X1 platform recently, and this month heralds even more content into the experience. My teams and I are really proud of the work that’s been done in the past few months, and we’re excited to have these new components of the product up and running.
Below is a roundup of all the new features ready for utilization.
Key Launches:
- Amazon Prime Video on X1
- TubiTV – free TV and Movies
- XITE – music videos ala old school MTV
- Movies Anywhere – watch anything you bought elsewhere directly like iTunes or Bluray codes
1. Amazon Prime Video
Much like the fully integrated YouTube and Netflix experiences we’ve grown accustomed to, you can now watch Amazon Prime Video directly on your X1, without needing to switch to another device or grab a different remote. Thanks to my team and many others, all Amazon Prime Video content is now seamlessly accessed using your X1 Voice Remote.
For me, at home, this means no longer having to switch inputs to another device for the app. Many of the millions of Prime subscribers in the US have never taken advantage of Prime Video, but X1 is now making it easier to do so.
My favorite shows on Prime Video: The Americans, Downton Abbey plus a great movie library (maybe catch “It’s a Wonderful Life”?)
2. TubiTV
An additional 8,200+ free TV Shows and Movies are now available on X1 through TubiTV. We’re thrilled to bring what’s often a Top 10 app on other connected TV platforms to X1, augmenting an already extensive library.
Catch Black Hawk Down, Legally Blonde, and more on TubiTV.
3. XITE
As a kid of the 80s and 90s, I remember when we got CableTV and it included MTV. And for many years it WAS the way to watch music videos. Fast forward to today… and MTV is a whole other animal of basically reality television with much of music video watching happening on YouTube. And yet one thing missing is lean-back VJ experience on the big screen… enter XITE.
It just starts playing. So simple. but if you want you can nudge it in a direction around genres or artists. Your choice.
4. Movies Anywhere
Finally, if you’re anything like my family, over the years you’ve bought movies a number of ways: Blu-ray, iTunes, Vudu, etc.. Now that X1’s fully integrated with the Movies Anywhere locker, all of these movies can be organized together in one place. You can watch them on X1, or download them to the Stream App. Furthermore, this integration allows movies purchased directly through X1 to be watched on an Apple TV, Fire TV, or Roku.
This means customers can buy movies on all of these platforms, wherever it’s most convenient, and have the flexibility to use other Movies Anywhere partners in the future. (This 1 of the 5 was not built by a team of mine per se, but what a cool feature).
Now more than ever I believe XFINITY X1 is THE way to enjoy TV. And based on the recent launches am thrilled my teams are doing their part.
